Ruling on army men forced to shave their beards
Q: I work in the army and I am forced to keep my beard shaved at all times. Is this Haram
(prohibited)?

A: Itis not permissible to shave the beard, because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon
him) commanded men to leave it and let it grow in many Hadith Sahih (authentic Hadith). He
(peace be upon him) explained that by letting it grow Muslims are differing from Magi and
Mushriks (those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity or worship); Moreover the
Prophet (peace be upon him) had a thick beard and it is obligatory for us to
him; since
following his example in morals and deeds is one of the best acts. Allah (Glorified be He)
says:
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad ALu9 alc aill o) you have a
examnple to follow
He (Glorified
and Exalted be He) also says:
And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad ALu9 alc all Lo) gives you, take it; and
whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it);
Allah (Glorified be He) says:
And let those who oppose the Messenger’s
(Muhammad Alu9 alc aljl sL) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah
legal ways orders, acts Of worship; statements) (among the
sects) beware lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant) should befall them ora
painful torment be inflicted

As for smoking and whetheritis similar in ruling to shaving the beard the Prophet (peace be
upon him) said,
‘Anyone who imitates a people is one of them
Sorif you have to shave Your beard in Your
current job do not comply. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,
“There is no obedience
to a creature in matters related to disobedience to the Creator.
However if you are forced to shave Your beard,
quit this job which forces you to do something that displeases Allah. All praise be to Allah,
there are many ways to earn
living; Indeed, anyone who abandons something for the Sake
of Allah, Allah will compensate them with something better, May Allah grant you success,
make
things
for Your and let us and you be steadfast on His religion!

그래서 군인인데 어떻게 하냐는 물음에 학자는 단호하게 길러야 한다 답한다.
다른 장에선 턱수염을 자르는 것은 죄(sin)이며 남성이 여성을 흉내내는 흉측한 행동이자 수염이 없는 우상숭배자를 흉내내는 것과 같으며
우상숭배자를 흉내내는 것은 곧 그들과 같다는 구절을 인용하여 결국 턱수염을 자르는 자는
불신자(kafir)
와 같다는 결론까지 이른다.
그래서 턱수염을 기를 수 없다면 과감히 군대를 나오라는 조언까지 등장한다.

과거 탈레반 휘하의 아시아계 부족 하자르족은 턱수염이 짧거나 없다는 이유로 구금당하거나 제대로 된 수염이 아니란 이유로 수염이 뽑히는 굴욕을 당하기도 했다.
이같은 율법은 모두 선지자 무함마드의 사소한 모든 행동이 모범이자 길(sunnah)이라는 이슬람의 정통 교리에 기반한 것으로 이슬람 최대종파 순니파 자체가 저 순나에서 나온 것이다.
