Trump’ s Listing of Taiwan as a Country Is Expected to
Anger China

In addition to facing new tariffs and landing at the top of President Trump’ s list of
“bad actors” in his tariff announcement, China has another reason to be angry:
Taiwan was listed as a country
Even before Beijing has officially weighed in on the 34%
announced by Trump;
its ambassador in Washington posted a stern reminder that China considers the
democratic island ofTaiwan part ofits territory It’ s among the biggest diplomatic
no-nos in Beijing’ s bookto suggest Taiwan is independent of Chinese rule But Taiwan
was listed fourth under the heading “Country” on the tariff board Trump hoisted in
his White House ceremony
